What the Bible Has to Say about Popular Entertainment – Novels, Movies, TV Shows, Video Games

What the Bible Has to Say about Popular Entertainment
– Novels, Movies, TV Shows, Video Games

Numbers 33:51-52 – "[51] Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan ; [52] then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places :"

Comment: God commanded the children of Israel to destroy all the graven images, and all the idols, and all the images of false gods depicted on walls. Today, in America, and around the world, movies, TV shows, and other videos display entertainment and steal time from God. Today, entertainment takes a huge amount of time out of people’s schedules. It is a god that people serve around the world.

Psalm 101:3 – "[3] I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes : I hate the work of them that turn aside ; it shall not cleave to me."

Comment: The psalmist declared that he would not look at anything beliyaal (i.e. evil, worthless, unprofitable, naughty, ungodly, or wicked). The Hebrew word, in this verse, for wicked is (Strong’s # 1100) beliyaal. It means: “… without profit, worthlessness; … wickedness … Belial, evil, naughty, ungodly …, wicked.” (From: Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance.) If what we are watching or viewing is beliyaal, we must turn it off and repent.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

“[14] Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers : for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness ? and what communion hath light with darkness ? [15] And what concord hath Christ with Belial ? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel ?

[16] And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols ? for ye are the temple of the living God ; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.  [17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ;  and I will receive you, [18] and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,  saith the Lord Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 7:1 – “[1] Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Some questions to ask ourselves:

Q 1: Do you have fellowship or fascination with anything that is unrighteous or worldly? (Yes? / No?).

Q 2: Do you agree with worldly ideas?

Q 3: Is the entertainment of the world your love or interest?

Q 4: Are you living separate from worldly entertainment?

If the answer is “yes” to the first three questions and “no” to the last question, one needs to seek God about his (or her) life. One needs to listen to what God would show him (or her), and ponder over what the Holy Bible has to say about these things.

Ephesians 5:11 – “[11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “[17] Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature : old things are passed away ; behold, all things are become new.”

Questions:

Q 1: Are you agreeing with or partaking in things that are spiritually worthless, frivolous, or ungodly? (Yes? / No?).

Q 2: Are you in love with Jesus Christ?

Q 3: How important to you is your relationship with God?

Q 4: Do you believe that you have been made into a new creature, in Christ?

If you answered “no” to the above question (Q 4), would you like to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and have eternal life? If you would like to know Abba God the Father and Jesus Christ (God the Son), and be saved from sin, click here to read more.

Romans 13:11-14

"[11] And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep : for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. [12] The night is far spent, the day is at hand : let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. [13] Let us walk honestly, as in the day ; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying : [14] but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." [Emphasis added.]

Rioting (archaic definition): “to behave with a complete lack of personal restraint, especially in financial or sexual matters” {From Encarta Dictionary: English (North America)}.

Chamber (definition): “2. To be wanton; to indulge in lewd or immodest behavior. …” (From Webster’s 1828 dictionary).

Wantonness (definition): “lacking restraint or inhibition, especially in sexual behavior …” "4. … unrestrained, … greed and extravagance" {From Encarta Dictionary: English (North America)}.

Strife (definition): “bitter and sometimes violent conflict, struggle, or rivalry” {From Encarta Dictionary: English (North America)}.

Provision (definition): “2. action taken to prepare for something [:] a preparatory step taken to meet a possible or expected need" {From Encarta Dictionary: English (North America)}.

Lust (definition): “1. Longing desire … 2. … unlawful desire of carnal pleasure. … 3. … depraved affections and desires. …” (From Webster’s 1828 dictionary). (Note: “Depraved” refers to wickedness.)

Mark 9:47-48 – "[47] And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out : it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire :  [48] where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched."

The fire in Hell is eternal fire. The suffering there is immense.

🌍 ➠ If you would like to know Abba God the Father and Jesus Christ (God the Son), and be saved from sin, click here to read more. There is no other way of salvation than by trusting in Jesus Christ the Savior (1 Timothy 2:5-6). Our own works can never save us.

"[3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour ;
[4] who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus ; [6] who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time." [1 Timothy 2:3-6.]

"[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." [Acts 2:38.]
