Body Piercing, Tattoos, and Marring the Body

The topic of body piercing and tattooing has gotten more popular in the last couple decades. Body piercing and getting tattoos are now trends that many young people are interested in. Lip rings, nose rings, bellybutton rings, gauges (for ears), tattoos, and such are in high demand among the youth but why are these so popular today? And, where did these practices originate?

Body piercing and getting tattoos are not new by any means. They have been around for thousands of years and were practiced by pagan cultures around the world. The Bible speaks of such practices during the days of Moses.

God told the Children of Israel (Hebrews) not to follow after the pagan practices of the people who would surround their small country. They were to be separate from the pagans because God wanted a pure and holy people for Himself.

In Leviticus 19:28, God says through Moses: “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.”

What is this practice of cutting the flesh for the dead and what 

did it signify?

Alexander Hislop, a historian, wrote this in his book, The Two Babylons (pg. 129): “Osiris was cut in pieces; therefore, to imitate his fate, so far as living men might do so, they were required to cut and wound their own bodies.” Hislop explained in the same book how Osiris was a god borrowed from the Assyrian / Babylonian god Nimrod (or Baal) (of Genesis 10) who was killed and his body was cut up into pieces (The Two Babylons, pp. 56-58). These pieces were sent to various places as a warning to those who served Nimrod and his idolatrous system.

After Nimrod was killed, his followers worshiped him as a god who was cut to pieces. To mourn his death and mutilation, they would cut bald patches in their hair, pierce themselves in various places, and cut themselves with sharp knives. They also printed marks in their skin (i.e. tattoos).

Herodotus wrote: "I have before related in what manner the rites of Isis are celebrated at Busiris. After the ceremonies of sacrifice the whole assembly [...] flagellate [or whip] themselves[...] The Carians of Egypt treat themselves at this solemnity with unparalleled severity; they cut themselves in the face with swords, and by this distinguish themselves from the Egyptian natives." (Herodotus, Volume 1.)

Hislop wrote of this practice of cutting the flesh and how it was practiced by Hindus, Romans, Egyptians, and others (The Two Babylons, pg. 129).

Besides cutting themselves with swords and whips, ancient people purposely mutilated their hair and beards for the same reason.

Intenso dolor atravesó su pecho, más intenso en su corazón, y Richmond gritó. (1) The Surgery

Intense pain pierced through his chest, most intense at his heart, and Richmond screamed. He had been through three hours of surgery (at the Korle Bu Hospital) after being given anesthetics, but pain had suddenly shot through his heart. The words of the surgeon just prior to the surgery echoed through his mind: “…no one with this kind of condition at your age has ever survived this kind of surgery.”

Richmond felt he had no choice. The pain in his abdomen had only been getting worse and while he was at the hospital, it grew in intensity. He knew he could very well die, but he was willing to take that risk because the pain from a rare intestinal condition had been with him since his early twenties. Besides this, Richmond told the doctor that he is a Christian and said he has his faith and hope in God, not in statistics.

Now, three hours into the surgery, Richmond screamed in pain. The pain in his heart was like a sharp sword and he could not hold on any longer. Suddenly, he blacked out. The last thing he remembered on Earth was screaming in pain.

(1) The Critical Condition

Richmond Gyimah (who was 23 in 2009) was born in Ghana. In 2009, Richmond was sick and admitted to a hospital and placed in a surgical ward, ward 5. He went into surgery on March 9, 2009.

Richmond’s grandmother had told him that his stomach ached a lot when he as a kid. He had persistent stomach pain since then. In 2008, Richmond went to a hospital to diagnose his stomach problem which had only gotten worse. When he told them his condition, the doctors had laughed and said there was no problem. He left that hospital and went to the Korle Bu Hospital. At Korle Bu, they did tests and found that some of the cells in his large intestine were dead even since he was young.  

When he was 19 (and during his early twenties), he was constipated, and at times could not go to the bathroom. The doctors at Korle Bu Hospital confirmed that what he said was true after doing some tests.

In 2009, Richmond found himself in the emergency ward of the Korle Bu Hospital with IV drips. Later, his grandmother told Richmond that someone had found him lying on the floor, weak and unable to move. They had rushed Richmond to the Hospital emergency ward.

There is a place deep in the heart of the Earth, in a spiritual realm. It is a place many have heard of and few truly understand. It is a place full of darkness, suffering, and horror unimaginable. It is a place that you will never want to visit, not even once. And yet, according to the Bible (God’s Holy Word), it is a place many will spend an eternity in.

Hell has inspired people for generations to come up with fanciful ideas about what it is like. Some have imagined a place where sins are burned up and “cleansed.” Others have imagined a place where people can “party” with their friends and do whatever their flesh wants to do. Both beliefs are false and contradict the Bible. Sins can only be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ and Hell is certainly not a place to “party” with one’s friends.

The psalmist writes this in Psalm 88:

Psalm 88:3-8

3 For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.

4 I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

5 Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.

6 Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

7 Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.

8 Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

Psalm 88:18

18 Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.

This writer, likely King David, had been going through a lot of anguish and difficulty. He had been pursued by his enemies who sought to kill him. In Psalm 88, the psalmist describes what Hell is like. We learn that people in Hell (the pit) have “no strength” (vs. 4). People in Hell are in darkness and are separated from their acquaintances and friends (vs. 8 and vs. 18). They are certainly not partying with them.

Hell is a Place of Torment

Hell is a place of torment, both physical, and emotional, and spiritual. The emotional torment of Hell is described in Proverbs 5. In this section we read about a foolish man who committed adultery and fornication with a strange woman (a harlot).

Proverbs 5:3-5 (bold / underline added)

3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

Proverbs 5:8-13

8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

This man in Hell is mourning over the fact that he didn’t listen to his teachers or anyone who instructed him. Instead, he went after harlots and now experiences anguish in Hell in addition to the pain of his flesh and his body being consumed. Though his flesh and his body are being consumed, he does not cease to exist. The Bible, in 2 Thessalonians 1, shows that…

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 (bold / underline added)

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

Hell is Eternal

Destruction is not until the person ceases to exist. Destruction in Hell is everlasting (vs. 9). And, it involves being separated “from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power” (vs.9). But, they shall be “tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb” (Revelation 14:10). God is omnipresent (everywhere at once) and His angels are allowed to look at Hell, but God has cut Himself off from the people in Hell.

Revelation 14 also reveals that the torment in Hell (or the lake of fire) is eternal.

Revelation 14:9-11 (bold / underline added)

9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Notice the words in verse 11: “they have no rest day nor night”? Anyone who taught that Hell is temporary until the body is burned up does not understand the scripture, or is lying. Hell is eternal and the hellfire is eternal. “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever…” (vs. 11).

This torment, as we mentioned earlier is both physical, and emotional, and spiritual. The man who did not repent from fornication and adultery was in agony physically as he flesh and body were consumed by eternal fire (see Proverbs 5:11). This soul was also in emotional agony as he remembered that he had not listened to people (i.e. his teachers) who had warned him about the consequences of sin. He said…

He wishes now that he had listened to his teachers and others who had warned him about Hell and sin. But, it is too late for him now.

Hell is Spiritual Separation from God and People in Hell are Fully Conscious.

Besides being physical and emotional torment, Hell is spiritual torment in that the human spirit-soul that God created to exist forever is separated from God (who is the source of life and joy and peace and true love) not for a thousand years, not for a million years, but forever.

Jesus Christ warned His own disciples about Hell.

Mark 9:42-44 (bold / underline added)

42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Jesus was not teaching that men should cut off their hands to stay away from Hell as much as He was teaching that anything that offends (or leads one into sin) must be removed from a person’s life to keep that person from Hell. Sin is very deceptive and it does lead people “…into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: [44] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”(Mark 9:43-44).

Eastern Meditation and Deception and Heresy in the “Church”

Harry Potter is just one example of how the occult and witchcraft have crept into the Church to lead astray children and their parents.  Eastern meditation has been given the name “contemplative prayer” or “centering prayer” or “breath prayers” by evangelical “Christians” and is becoming popular in many American churches. As one example, Rick Warren encourages people, in his book The Purpose Driven Life, to repeat phrases over and over in a mantra similar to prayers used by Zen Buddhism and Hindu yoga (h) (See Works Cited at the end).

Brian McLaren, a leader in the emerging church movement, has endorsed heretical books by people such as Tony Campolo (Speaking My Mind) and Dave Fleming (The Seeker's Way). These authors believe that Christianity is too limited and needs to be joined with other religions (h).

Campolo writes: “Beyond these models of reconciliation, a theology of mysticism provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam." (Tony Campolo. Speaking My Mind, pg. 149.) (i)

Campolo told Charlie Rose: “I’m not convinced that Jesus only lives in Christians.” (Tony Campolo. Charlie Rose show on January 24, 1997.) (i)

Tony Campolo believes that other religions have “Jesus” in them somehow.

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation…

John 14:6

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

1 Timothy 2:5

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Please notice again that the Bible says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12). Only by the name of Jesus Christ can people be saved. Buddha, Muḥammad, Hinduism, Mormonism, etc. do not have the way of salvation. Their gods are not the true Jesus Christ of the Bible. Only by the true Jesus Christ is there salvation.

By denying that Jesus Christ is only in true Christianity (found in the Bible), Campolo and other false teachers are teaching false doctrines, denying Jesus Christ, teaching a false, new-age “christ.”

Is it any wonder, then, that 33 percent of the “Christian” teens surveyed in a 2010 survey (at Reach Workcamps ministry sites across the country) believe that Jesus, Buddha, Islam, and other religions all lead to heaven? According to Mike Nappa, who was responsible for the survey, the kids were “cream of the crop” coming from Christian homes (j). Christian parents and pastors are not doing their job and the kids themselves are buying into the lies promoted at schools and by false teachers.

The moral foundation of America has been eroded severely, so much so that many “Christian” denominations have either embraced sodomy as acceptable or have warmed up to the idea that sodomy is not so bad. Some even have homosexual “pastors”. The Presbyterian Church (USA) voted, last June, to allow gay people to be “ordained” and for Presbyterian pastors to conduct gay ceremonies (k). They redefined “marriage” as a union of “two people” (k).

Many other denominations have warmed up to the belief that being gay is not against the Bible. But, what does God’s Word actually say about “homosexuality”?

Romans 1:24-27

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

This is not very popular, but it is the truth. 1 Corinthians 6 speaks about sodomy and other sins…

America, once the land of the free and home of the brave, is no longer so free, nor so brave. What had once thrived as a superpower is now declining economically, militarily, and spiritually. It had welcomed the poor and hungry and had been a beacon of hope to the masses of poor immigrants that came to its door.

Today, America has changed. It is no longer the powerful nation it had once been. It is in debt trillions of dollars, borrowed from countries such as China. Instead of being a beacon of hope, it has become very dark and full of great spiritual depravity. You may know America is getting darker, but for the sake of exposing the truth, we will look at how dark America really is getting. We will see how such a nation cannot endure much longer, having had the spiritual knowledge it once had.

America and the 19^th Century

As America expanded westward, it met resistance from the original inhabitants of America, the Native Americans. Did America work with them and settle in land the Native Americans willingly give them? Did they buy the land from the Natives? The Federal Government forcibly moved Native Americans from their own land and put them on reservations where they were often bordering enemy tribes.  Some of the Native American tribes were given land that was arid and bad for planting.

Under of Dawes Act of 1887, Native American tribal land was taken away from the tribes and much of it given to settlers. Land was then allotted to individual “Indians.” While it was meant to help prepare the Native Americans for citizenship, it took away their hunting rights and reduced their reservation land. The best land was often given to white settlers (a) (See Works Cited). This is identical to stealing. America had broken one of the Ten Commandments in its treatment of the Indians: “Thou shalt not steal.” (Exodus 20:15).

They also broke the sixth commandment: “Thou shalt not kill.” (Exodus 20:13). During the “Wounded Knee Massacre” a single gunshot sparked a blood bath that resulted in Native American men, women, and children being murdered. The tensions between the U.S. Army of 1890 and the Sioux tribe came to a head at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The Sioux tribe had been fighting the U.S. Army for decades, on and off, and tensions were high. When some members of the 7^th cavalry came to confiscate weapons in an Indian encampment under the leadership of a Sioux called “Big Foot”. They had misunderstood Big Foot’s intentions and thought he was a threat. The camp was surrounded by Hotchkiss guns and 500 soldiers (b).

One of the Indians, Black Coyote, refused to give up his rife. Soldiers began roughing him up and insisting that he give up the gun. Somewhere a shot rang out. The Hotchkiss guns began firing, and in the chaos, many innocent children, women, and men were murdered. This would mark the end of the “Indian Wars” and the further decline of the Native Americans’ way of life (b).

Legalizing Murder

Today, killing is legalized. How so, one may ask? When the human life has been redefined so that a baby is called a “fetus” and so that killing that innocent baby is termed “abortion”, this breaking of God’s law is rationalized as simply getting rid of something unwanted.

Since abortion was legalized in 1973, there have been over 55 million abortions in the United States (c). Each year approximately 1.2 to 1.3 million babies are killed by abortion (Foust).  That number is roughly equal to the 1.2 million U.S. soldiers that have died since the American Revolutionary War (including all the wars up to the recent Iraq War) (d).

The process of abortion is very gruesome and bloody and the child has to suffer great pain. It is absolutely horrible and yet it is accepted as being normal and okay. A society that doesn’t think much of human life cannot last long.

Because the Ten Commandments are a thought of as a threat to society, they have been removed from many courthouses, city halls, and public places. In August this year (2014), a judge in New Mexico ruled that the Ten Commandments display at the Bloomfield City Hall must be removed (e).  

The Influence of the Occult (Magic) and Satanism

While the Ten Commandments are being removed, a statue to honor Satan is currently being constructed to be placed at the Oklahoma State House beside a donated Ten Commandments monument. While a legal battle is being fought, it is very clear that the worship of the devil is becoming more popular. This is only a sign that evil is becoming more blatant.

If one only looks at the movies and TV shows designed for kids one can see the influence of witchcraft and the occult. Harry Potter, a best-selling series that became a highly-popular Hollywood franchise, has been endorsed by “Christians.”

The late David J. Meyer, a former witch who left witchcraft to become a follower of Jesus Christ, wrote that “Harry Potter books are training manuals for the occult.” (g). Meyer explains (g):

'Harry also learns a new vocabulary, including words such as "Azkaban", "Circe", "Draco", "Erised", "Hermes", and "Slytherin"; all of which are names of real devils or demons. These are not characters of fiction!

'How serious is this? By reading these materials, many millions of young people are learning how to work with demon spirits. They are getting to know them by name. Vast numbers of children professing to be Christians are also filling their hearts and minds, while willingly ignorant parents look the other way.'

Eastern Meditation and Deception and Heresy in the “Church”
