Deuteronomy 7:7-8 -- "[7] The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye [were] the fewest of all people: [8] But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt." 

➽ The word for love in Deuteronomy 7:7 is chashaq (Strong's #2836) in Hebrew. Brown-Driver-Briggs defines chashaq as: "... verb be attached to, love (... press together, desire ...)"

Deuteronomy 33:3 -- "Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words."

[Note: The bold, underlined words refer to God Himself. In this verse, the word "thy" refers to Jesus Christ (who is God the Son) before He was born, as a baby, in Bethlehem. It was Jesus Christ, in His glory, who Moses saw (but not His face) on Mt. Sinai. Jesus appeared to Abraham in Genesis 18 and as the "angel of the LORD" or "captain of the LORD'S host" to other people, including Joshua in Joshua 5. The "angel of the LORD" appeared to Samson's parents in Judges 13. The Hebrew word for angel is malak (Strong's #4397). Malak refers to a "messenger," "king," "angel," or an "ambassador." The word "angel" is just another way of saying "messenger" or "ambassador." Jesus Christ is the "messenger of the covenant" in Malachi 3:1.]

The word for loved in Deuteronomy 33:3 is chabab (Strong's #2245) in Hebrew. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance defines chabab as: "A primitive root (compare chaba', chabah); properly, to hide (as in the bosom), i.e. To cherish (with affection) -- love."

➡ Webster's 1828 dictionary defines bosom as: "... 1. The breast ... 2. The folds or covering of clothes about the breast. ... 3. Embrace, as with arms ; inclosure [sic] ; compass ; often implying friendship or affection ; ..." (Webster)

Rap. Rap. Rap. Steve knocked louder on the front door of his house. His friend Jason stood beside him, looking left and right, wondering why Sarah, Steve’s wife hadn’t answered the door. “Is Sarah okay?’ both Steve and Jason wondered. Steve had forgotten to bring the house key with him and was locked out.

A gunfight between two armed men in a three-story apartment building and SWAT police officers was raging three blocks down the street. The gangsters had taken up positions in windows on the third floor of the apartment building. Loud gunshots cracked through the air, from time to time. Each shot made Steve flinch.

“Sarah,” Steve called loudly through the front door, “It’s me, Steve, your husband. Please answer the door.”

Some of the words Abba God uses in the New Testament to show His love for us include Phileó and Koinónia and Natsar.

Phileó in John 16:27

John 16:27 -- “[27] For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”

According to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon, the word loveth in English is phileó in Greek (Strong’s #5368). It means “1. … to love i.e. delight in, long for, … 2. to kiss…”

According to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, phileó means “... i.e. Have affection for (denoting personal attachment, as a matter of sentiment or feeling;...); specially, to kiss (as a mark of tenderness) -- kiss, love."

“Conviction”

Tall stacks of cash sat in neat rows on a kitchen table in an upper middle-class home in Oslo, Norway. A 47-year-old man with brown hair, which was graying at the temples, hunched over the stacks of cash with an avaricious look in his eyes. Felix Tangen, the husband of Elise Tangen, and a former friend to Karl Holst, was counting his money. A satisfied, smug smile creased his cheeks as the Norwegian placed the last ruble note on a stack of banknotes. He wrote down the amount on a sheet of scrap paper: 337,500 rubles*. [* This amount is about equal to $11,250 from the year 2017.] [Read about Felix’s betrayal of his friends in Chapter 21.]

Once the police or military capture the 30 Christians he betrayed, Felix would be given another 337,500 rubles. He also found out that for a ten-year period, a monthly discount would be applied to his utility bill so that it would only be 50 percent of its current rate, if one of the people he had betrayed was either captured or killed. He was looking forward to hearing from the office of the secret police. They would notify him once they had captured one of those people.

The Father of the Prodigal Son

I am writing this article as a Protestant who cares for Catholics and anyone who believes that it is necessary for them to perform for God's love or do works in order to be forgiven and cleansed from sin. 

Some people (both Protestants and Catholics) hold onto a wrong view of God that when they sin and repent, that somehow God would expect them to perform "penances," or acts to help pay for their sin, or works to bring them back to a "right standing" with God. Some believe they should confess their sins to a spiritual leader (such as a priest). But, what does the Bible say about this?

James 5:16 says: "[16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

If someone has wronged you (such as spoken evil of you), he or she should confess that sin to you and ask your forgiveness. And, vice versa. This is not speaking about going to a person (or a priest) to confess one's sins to. If Jim gossiped about Bill, behind his back, he should confess his sin to Bill and ask for forgiveness. Likewise, Bill should do the same to Jim if Bill had mistreated Jim.

We are seeing today an increase of hatred against Jews and Israel. The vitriol is astounding. Pro-Nazi and pro-Hitler accounts are popping up all over social media and the number of "anti-Semitic" incidents, or instances of persecution against Jewish people, are increasing each year.

I am writing as a Gentile follower of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught that we ought to love our neighbor as ourselves. There is no teaching of Jesus or of the Bible that agrees with the persecution of Jews. Persecuting the Jews is actually the very opposite of what God calls us to do. God wants us to love and care for others.

In Mark 12:31, Jesus said: "[31] And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these." Earlier, Jesus was saying to love God the Father with all the heart, soul, mind, and strength, teaching that this was the first commandment.

South African farmland rolled past the windows of the silver Toyota Corolla Mark Mzembi had borrowed from his generous hosts, the Mahlangu’s, who owned a prosperous farm in the South African countryside. Two young Christian families were staying with the Mahlangu’s in their large, two-story home, after having escaped from violence and persecution in Johannesburg. Chapter Twenty-Eight

PART 28: “Confrontation in Medvedski”

As Sergey drove through the Russian town of Medvedski, a Gaz Tiger police truck turned onto the street in front of him and flashed its police lights as it pulled to a stop up ahead. Sergey stopped the Yamaha Sidewinder and waited to see what would happen. As he waited, he prayed. His breath came out in puffs of vapor as he poured out his heart to God.

Then, he pressed the megaphone trigger and said, “God is calling out to you, people of Medvedski, to repent and turn to Him before it is too late. Don’t wait for tomorrow. Today is the day of salvation. Repent because Jesus Christ will have to judge you if you will not make Him your Savior and Lord. And, Jesus wants you to be saved from the fires of Hell and to have eternal joy and everlasting life with Him.” [If you are interested in being saved through Jesus Christ and having a relationship with God, click here.]

The two front doors opened in the truck and two Russian police officers emerged, wearing ushankas and armed with the standard police gear. They approached both sides of his snowmobile with expressionless faces. As they walked toward him, one officer looked familiar to Sergey. He was one of the police officers who had seen Sergey, a day earlier, successfully command blindness, in the Name of Jesus, to strike one of the officers who was going to arrest him. [Read about that event in Chapter 16 here.]

This man stopped in his tracks as the realization donned on him, and he began backing up toward the truck. The other officer was a new guy in town. He looked at his coworker with surprise.

“What are you doing, Dmitri?” the newer officer said.

“That man commanded blindness to strike an officer yesterday,” Dmitri said. “Let’s leave this place.” He started walking more quickly back toward the police truck.

“Come back. Don’t be a coward,” the other man said to his coworker as he approached Sergey.

Then, shaking his head, he turned toward Sergey and said, “Did you make two police officers blind yesterday? And, did you use some kind of chemical spray or some kind of laser technology to blind them?”

“No,” Sergey said with a peace, calmness, and renewed boldness. “I did not touch them or use any sort of technology to blind them. God blinded them by His power because they were not going to humble themselves before God. This was so that God would be glorified. God said in His Word that we believers have power over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt us. That’s Luke 10:19.”

“You expect me to believe that? You must be an escaped psychiatric patient,” the officer said condescendingly before he drew his MP-443 Grach service pistol and trained it on Sergey’s chest.

“Raise your hands in the air so I can see that your hands are free,” the officer said firmly.

“The Flying Menace in Norway”

“You sure have strong faith in God’s power. I wish I had that faith,” Inga said from the shadows of the bush she was hiding under.

“You can have that faith,” Karl said, “by just simply making the choice to believe God over how you feel. And, you will see God work powerfully. Faith is really just a choice. It is not a feeling.”

Karl, Inga, Toben, Elise, and Abdul were in a forest in Norway seeking to escape the communistic authorities of the new authoritarian puppet government. They had just met a young, Muslim family who had fled from authorities since the man of the household, Musa, had stolen 150,000 rubles*. [* It is roughly $5,000 U.S. dollars. In the future, 30 rubles will be roughly equal to one dollar from 2017. That is what God showed this writer.]

“So, you’re saying that faith has nothing to do with having a feeling that you have faith?” Inga said.

“Faith is a decision to trust God over how you feel,” Karl said without any hesitation.

A buzzing sound reached Karl’s ears and he looked up. Turning around, he noticed a dark object blotting out part of the early night sky. Stars were just starting to appear but the moon had not risen above the horizon yet. It was a large, armed, quad-rotor drone, and it was now approaching Karl and his friends with the certainty of having spotted its targets. It was in the air 280 yards away. [Read about this in Part 26.]

“Everyone, get down! A drone is coming!” Elise shouted from another bush a few yards away.

“There is no need to fear. God protected Daniel in the lions’ den. And, God protected us earlier from a drone,” Karl said as he stooped to pick up a round rock on the ground.

“You’re right, Karl. The bullets it fired at us fell to the ground. I am going to act in faith regardless of how I feel,” Elise said before she started crawling out of the bushes. She stood to her feet.

With leaves in her hair, she stood straight and began praying.

The drone was now 100 yards away and slowly closing.
