This is the story of Jonah and the big fish, as told with cartoon pictures, sound effects, and hymn music. Jonah was called by God to warn the people of Nineveh that if they didn't repent from their sins, idolatry, and wickedness that God would have to judge them. God had already been calling out to them before He called Jonah to go. But, they were not listening to Him. So, God spoke to Jonah and told him to go to Nineveh to plead with the people to repent and to turn to the true and living God. 

But, Jonah had a problem. He had a grudge against the Assyrian people. Nineveh was the capital of Assyria and it was his enemy. The Assyrians had oppressed the people of Israel, and Jonah wanted nothing to do with God's will to plead with them and warn them. So, Jonah decided he would do his own thing and go the very opposite direction. He was heading for Tarshish in what is now modern-day Spain. Back then, it was a Phoenician coastal city.

The ruins of Nineveh are located at modern-day Mosul, Iraq. In ancient times, Nineveh was densely populated and prosperous. But, Jonah didn't want to see God reach the hearts of Jonah's enemies, so he found a ship headed for Tarshish and got aboard. While they were sailing in the Mediterranean, a great storm arose and threatened the safety of the people aboard the cargo ship. 

But, Jonah didn't care. He was fast asleep until someone awoke him. Watch the video to see what happened next.

(This is a semi-animated / illustrated video about the prophet Elijah calling fire down from Heaven. It contains scripture verses, artwork, and hymn music.) -- Fire came down from Heaven and consumed stones, water, and an animal sacrifice when Elijah, a prophet of God, asked God to demonstrate His power to show the backward people of ancient Israel who the real God is. For years they were serving Baal and many other idols. Then, famine and drought struck the land for about 3 years. Near the end of the famine, Elijah, the man who King Ahab had sought to capture, appeared and wished to speak with the king. 

He told King Ahab to get the children of Israel together to conduct an experiment to see who the true God really is: Baal or JEHOVAH. The real God would answer his worshipers with fire from heaven. Elijah let the Baal worshipers go first. Then, the priests of Baal began to conduct pagan rituals to call upon Baal to send fire from heaven. But, nothing happened. This went on for many hours.

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

The Crate Room

Wolf, Stingray, and Jackal were standing at the bottom of the staircase, inside the concrete room. Against two of the four walls, crates and boxes were stacked. The fluorescent ceiling lights were still on, proving that someone had been down there not long ago. Where the Christians had vanished to was still a mystery to Wolf. It seemed that the only way out of that room was by the stairwell he had just descended.

Jackal, an agent of the crime organization Red Venom, had just arrived at Daniel and Monika Barnabus’s house, which sat in the depths of the Kühnburg forest in the Communist Republic of Germany. Pretending to be an “underground” Christian, Jackal has convinced several Christians to follow him out into the woods to help him bring some camping stuff over to Daniel’s house. Unknown to Kevin, several gangsters had emerged from some dense bushes. The Christians who had followed Jackal were then handcuffed.

Concerned about who this stranger was, Kevin had gone into a second-floor closet to seek God about the visitor.

Hearing from God

“Father God, who is this stranger here at Daniel’s house? I’m puzzled about him. Is he a true Christian or is he seeking to harm us?” Kevin said from within a walk-in closet on the second floor of Daniel’s house. “And, if he is seeking to harm us, what should we do?”

The Surprise

“Svenja, Rolf, how did you get here?” Kevin said, surprised, as he stood in Daniel’s spacious living room near a stone fireplace and a cream-colored sofa. Maritza and Daniel were standing nearby. Kevin’s sister and her husband had just entered the living room from a hallway connected to the left corner of the back wall. Along the back wall of the living room, and three meters from the hallway entrance, a set of stairs descending into the basement.

“Kevin,” Rolf said with his deep voice, smiling, “you wouldn’t believe what God has done for us.”

“What is that?” Kevin said as he walked toward the giant and his wife.

A heavy, razor-sharp guillotine blade, sparkling in a bright, overhead light, hung in slotted tracks over Svenja’s head. The time displayed on a large, digital clock, which was fastened to one of the concrete walls of the execution room, was 5:28:03 A.M. On the wall beside it was an electric buzzer. A row of fifteen guillotines sat empty to Svenja’s left.
