In this article, we will look at some of the symbols and messages

in some of Tolkien's LOTR books and writings. We will see if they are occultic, or not. 

We'll look at the "Doors of Durin", the White Tree of Gondor, Gandalf's true identity as

one of the Istari, and more.

Many have researched into occult aspects of various books and movies. Some have pointed out actual witchcraft portrayed for entertainment in fictional books and movies, such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. The occult world is very active in these days in which we live. But, are J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels free of anything occultic? Or, do they include occult themes and symbols?

To answer those questions, we’ll start with an important character in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Gandalf is a wizard who demonstrates magical power through spells and by use of his staff. But, according to J.R.R. Tolkien, Gandalf is not a human being. Tolkien described Gandalf in this way:

“But G. [sic] is not, of course, a human being (Man or Hobbit). There are naturally no precise modern terms to say what he was. I wd. [sic] venture to say that he was an incarnate 'angel'... that is, with the other Istari, wizards, 'those who know', an emissary from the Lords of the West, sent to Middle-earth, as the great crisis of Sauron loomed on the horizon. By 'incarnate' I mean they [the Istari / wizards] were embodied in physical bodies capable of pain, and weariness, and of afflicting the spirit with physical fear, and of being 'killed', though supported by the angelic spirit they might endure long, and only show slowly the wearing of care and labour. ...” [A.] [End quote] (underline added)

Tolkien described Gandalf (and the other the Istari wizards) as having a physical body that suffers from weariness and pain, but that is controlled by an angelic spirit. Thus, Gandalf was an “incarnate angel”. Half man, half angel creatures are found in Genesis chapter 6.

The greatest and most powerful deception comes in the form of some truth mixed with lies, and that is what the occult is. The occult has inspired many people to serve a system which exalts man above God in preparation for the New World Order that the “elite” (or the Illuminati) are working toward.

Hollywood has been their vehicle to take the masses and bring them in agreement with the elite’s plans. By spreading deception and lies through the movies and through the TV shows and video games, the Illuminati have achieved their goal of brainwashing humanity in preparation for the worship of a one-world leader, the beast (or the Antichrist).

The occult is the system that underlies every major institution, including false religions, cults, entertainment, video games, movies, etc. Powerful spirits are involved in these institutions and aspects of our world. These spirits are invisible, but they are deeply involved in all that happens in our world.

Ephesians 2:2 says: “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:”

This spirit (“the prince of the power of the air”) is none other than Satan, who is in charge of the Illuminati, the Freemasons, the mystery religions, Hollywood, entertainment, video games, rock music, the banking system, etc. Satan has been working toward his goal of a New World Order ever since God stopped the building of the tower of Babel by confusing the languages of the people and dividing them into their families and tribes, scattering them throughout the Earth (see Genesis 11:1-9).

From Nimrod, down to the present, the elite (or Illuminati) have existed, serving Satan’s agenda in exchange for money and power. The Devil tried to tempt Jesus Christ by offering Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if He would bow down to Satan. Jesus, of course, refused (see Matthew 4:8-10).

But, the Illuminati did not refuse the promise of power in exchange for worshipping the Devil. They wanted the power and didn’t care if it would cost them their souls. Through the centuries, to serve their master, the Illuminati (or the elite) obeyed his orders to use entertainment for the purpose of glorifying the so-called gods and for promoting the carnal, sensual, base, and worldly aspects of human nature.

An article titled “The Greeks” says this about the ancient Greek theater:

"The theatre of the ancient Greeks was in fact as far from ... [the] Victorian model as could possibly be imagined. It was a spectacle of loud music, vivid colors, and vigorous dancing; it was regularly bawdy, frequently obscene, and often blasphemous, ... scandalous, and carnal..." (3).

The Greeks performed plays in honor of Dionysus (1), a Greek god who originated from Babylon with the mystery religions. Alexander Hislop, a pastor and historian, has shown in his book, The Two Babylons, how Dionysus (a.k.a. Bacchus) is based on the Egyptian god Osiris (2), who is based on Nimrod (Hislop: see pg. 44 at the link).

Albert Pike, an influential 33rd degree Freemason from the 19^th century, wrote:

The year was 1938. All across Germany the Nazi propaganda machine had been spewing out lies and deceptions about the Jews, trying to rally the German people behind their effort to eventually eliminate every last Jew. Germany had had many economic problems due, in part, to the strict reparations imposed on them by the League of Nations and the Great Depression which came in 1929 (a) (See Works Cited at the end). The Nazis had blamed the Jews for their economy. They had blamed the Jews for their problems and the hatred of the Jews was reaching a boiling point.

Anti-Semitism in Medieval Europe

Like their European ancestors before them, the citizens of Nazi Germany blamed the Jews for their national and personal problems. Blaming the Jews for problems and then killing them later is nothing the Nazis invented. Nearly 550 years earlier, in 1389, hatred toward the Jews was also boiling over in the medieval city of Prague.

The Jews were not allowed to live with the rest of the people of most European cities and instead lived in separate communities called Ghettos. Due to a Catholic belief that Catholics should not be creditors or tax collectors, those jobs were left for the Jews (c). This sadly gave the Europeans an excuse to hate them more. Jews were blamed for sicknesses which were really due to bad hygiene and other problems. In 1389, citizens of Prague massacred thousands of Jews in the Prague Ghetto and looted and ransacked their homes (b).

“Kristallnacht”

Fast-forwarding to 1938, over five-hundred years later, Nazi Germany was also blaming the Jews for her problems. The propaganda was working and during the night of November 9–10 (later called “Kristallnacht”), thousands of Germans took out their anger on the Jews. Across Germany (which included Austria at the time) over 1,000 synagogues were set ablaze and approximately 7,500 Jewish businesses were looted and vandalized (d). During the chaos, over 90 Jews were murdered and 30,000 were arrested. While this horror was taking place, fire brigades and police were told to let Jewish properties burn and be vandalized. They could only intervene if “Aryan” properties were accidentally harmed (d).

The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion Exposed

There is a mistaken belief (existing even today) that Jews are behind the Illuminati and a sort of Jewish New World Order. Henry Ford believed it and he wrote many newspaper articles attacking the Jews, claiming that they were part of a conspiracy to destroy America (g) (see Works Cited below). This belief was also made popular by the publication of The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion. The book was published in Russian in 1905 by Sergei Nilus (d). In the book the Jewish characters are conversing back and forth about their plans for controlling the world. It has been proven that The Protocols… is a hoax and was based on an earlier publication.

In 1865, a book titled “Dialogue aux Enfers entre Machiavel et Montesquieu, ou la Politique de Machiavel au XIX. Siècle. Par un Contemporain” (or "A Dialogue in Hell Between Montesquieu and Machiavelli") was published in Brussels, Belgium (e). Its author Maurice Joly was a lawyer and satirist who lived during the reign of Napoleon III. He wrote the book as a dialogue between different characters with the intention of criticizing his government (d). He was arrested shortly after its publication and was sentenced to 18 months of jail time (e).

Some 40 years later, The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion was published. Its similarity to “Dialogue in Hell…” by Maurice Joly is very striking.

Now, compare The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion to "Dialogues in Hell".

There are many more examples of plagiarism in “The Protocols.”

As you can see, The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion plagiarized Maurice Joly’s much earlier publication. The only reason for it being published was to spread lies about the Jews. Sadly, Henry Ford bought into this big lie, as did Adolf Hitler. In Hitler’s Germany, the Nazi party published and distributed large quantities of “The Protocols” (h).

For thousands of years Israel was recognized as an important nation in the Middle East. During different periods of Israel’s history, kings and rulers gave her tribute and gifts. She was accepted as being a legitimate country and was envied by her neighbors. During the days of King Solomon, Israel had vast stores of gold and silver and precious stones: wealth that today would exceed the wealth of billionaires. This was ancient Israel’s golden age. But it didn’t last.

When Israel turned away from their God and served the idols of the nations around them, they became wicked and burned their children in the fires of Moloch, the Caananite god of child-sacrifice.

God brought them warning, by the mouth of prophets, time and time again, but they did not listen. Finally, God allowed the Assyrians to capture the northern kingdom of Israel, leaving the southern kingdom of Judah and Benjamin. The Jews in Judah and Benjamin did not learn from their northern brothers and continued in a period of idolatry (which was broken up by periods of returning back to God).

Again, God in His mercy sent prophets to warn the people and to turn them back to Him, but the people (for the most part) did not listen. And, eventually God allowed Babylon to take the Jews into captivity. After a period of 70 years, just as God had promised, He returned the Jews back to their land.

Some time went by and then Jesus Christ, the Messiah, came. Jesus Christ fulfilled all the prophecies of the Messiah who God promised to be the Savior of the Jews and of the Gentiles (see Genesis 3:15, Psalm 22, and Isaiah 53). The self-righteous, arrogant Pharisees and Sadducees rejected Jesus Christ as the Messiah, even after all the miracles He did, and had Him crucified on a Roman cross. But, other Jews believed in Jesus Christ and they spread the Gospel message of salvation to the world, starting at Jerusalem. (Paul the Apostle was a Jew, as were all the 12 disciples of Jesus.)

In 70 A.D. Titus, a Roman general, besieged Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple, and Jews were scattered into many countries. In their new countries, they gathered together in communities and preserved their culture as best they could.

Jews in Europe

During their whole existence in Europe and elsewhere, the Jews were despised by their Gentile neighbors. Sir Walter Scott, author of Ivanhoe, gives the reader a taste of the hatred and loathing Europeans felt toward Jews during the middle ages.

Scott writes (Ivanhoe, Chapter IV, pg. 1.):

Oswald, returning, whispered into the ear of his master, "It is a Jew, who calls himself Isaac of York; is it fit I should marshall him into the hall?"

"Let Gurth do thine office, Oswald," said Wamba with his usual effrontery; "the swineherd will be a fit usher to the Jew."

"St Mary," said the Abbot, crossing himself, "an unbelieving Jew, and admitted into this presence!"

"A dog Jew," echoed the Templar, "to approach a defender of the Holy Sepulchre?"

"By my faith," said Wamba, "it would seem the Templars love the Jews' inheritance [the land of Israel] better than they do their company."

"Hush," said Cedric, "for here he comes."

Introduced with little ceremony, and advancing with fear and hesitation, and many a bow of deep humility, a tall thin old man, […] approached the lower end of the board. His features, […], would have been considered as handsome, […][but] during those dark ages, was alike detested by the credulous and prejudiced vulgar, and persecuted by the greedy and rapacious nobility [….]

[…] Cedric himself coldly nodded in answer to the Jew's repeated salutations, and signed to him to take place at the lower end of the table, where, however, no one offered to make room for him. Jews have been vilified and mistreated for thousands of years and it is nothing they have earned. Many people today detest them for simply being Jewish. But, this attitude is nothing new. It has been around for a long time. During the middle ages Jews, who were sometimes vilified as “Christ-killers”, were denied the right to own land. Because the Catholic Church did not permit their members to lend money, Jews were allowed to do the lending (a) (see Works Cited in part 2). They also were allowed to serve kings as tax collectors, and sadly many people despised them (a).

At the time that men were scattered across the face of the earth, dispersed from the Tower of Babel when God confused their languages, they brought with them the pagan religion Nimrod and his mother started. This religion was adopted by Egyptians, Hindus, Greeks, Romans, Caananites, etc. Nimrod, a very wicked leader of idolatry, was killed by his uncle Shem (1). 

When his son, Tammuz, was born, the son's mom, Semiramis (or Ishtar, Isis, Ashtoreth, etc.), told the Babylonians that Tammuz was a "reincarnation" of Nimrod and that he was a "god". She then, being the mother of this "god" was called the "Queen of Heaven." Tammuz was called Baal, (i.e. "master"), by Caananites and was worshiped as the "sun-god". Fire was part of this solar-deity-worship (1).

In the 1911 edition of Theurgia: Or, The Egyptian Mysteries, this marginal note says:

*Proklos remarks of the Perfective Discipline, "that, as the Oracles teach, it obliterates, through the divine fire, all the stains derived from generated existence." The Chaldaean Oracle [sic] also says: "The mortal drawing near the sacrificial fire will have light from Divinity." (Iamblichus. Theurgia: Or, The Egyptian Mysteries, 1911. pg. 202) (bold / underline added)

These ancient pagans worshiped fire because fire was thought to purify away sin (note: think of Purgatory). The Bible teaches that only Jesus Christ's blood cleanses away sin (see 1 John 1:7, Acts 4:12). These fire-worshipers believed that fire also gave "light from Divinity" (ibid). This light can also be called "illumination". Those who have been "illuminated" are called the "Illuminati." (Note: "illuminati" comes from the Latin word "illuminatus").

The Illuminati existed long ago, long before the time of Adam Weishaupt, who started a group he called the "Illuminati". Before they were called the "Illuminati" they had different names.  In the past, they were the elite priesthood of the ancient mystery religions (in Egypt, Babylon, Greece, Rome, etc.). These high-ranking priests of Babylon, Egypt, Greece, etc. hid secrets in plain sight in the form of symbols, images, rituals etc. They kept the real meanings of their rituals, symbols, etc. to themselves and made up explanations to tell the "common people" and the lower-ranking priests. 

Freemasons and Mystery Religion

The Freemasons have secret handshakes, secret sayings, and secret meetings which no one (but who they allow) can observe, just as did the mystery religions. Manly P. Hall, a high-ranking, 33rd degree mason, wrote:

"Freemasonry is a fraternity within a fraternity -- an outer organization concealing an inner brotherhood of the elect ... it is necessary to establish the existence of these two separate and yet interdependent orders, the one visible and the other invisible. The visible society is a splendid camaraderie of 'free and accepted' men enjoined to devote themselves to ethical, educational, fraternal, patriotic, and humanitarian concerns. The invisible society is a secret and most August  fraternity whose members are dedicated to the service of a mysterious arcannum arcandrum." [Manly P. Hall, Lectures on Ancient Philosophy, p. 433]

This "invisible society" Manly P. Hall writes about, which is "dedicated" to a "arcannum arcandrum" (or a "secret" or a "mystery"), also worships Lucifer. How so? Albert Pike, a 33rd degree mason explains:

"The Masonic religion should be, by all of us initiates of the high degrees, maintained in the purity of the Luciferian doctrine. . . . Yes, Lucifer is God, and unfortunately Adonay  [God the Creator] is also God. ...for the absolute can only exist as two Gods: darkness being necessary to light.... The doctrine of Satanism is a heresy; and the true and pure philosophic religion is the belief in Lucifer, the equal of Adonay [God the Creator] ; but Lucifer, ... is struggling for humanity against Adonay, the God of darkness and evil." Albert Pike (quoted by A.C. De La Rive in La Femme et l'enfant dans la Franc-Maconnerie Universelle, p. 588; Lady Queenborough, Occult Theocracy pp. 220-221.) 

The Truth from the Bible

This twisted statement from this high-ranking mason makes the Creator God look evil and makes Satan (or Lucifer) look good. It also reveals how Satan-worshipers view God: they hate Him. Lucifer (Satan) is not equal to God in any way. Jesus Christ, (the Word) created all things.

Colossians 1:3 

3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 

Colossians 1:16-18 

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

John 1 tells how Jesus Christ (the Word) created all things.

John 1:1-3  

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

To twist things around, these evil men have called God evil and Satan good. 

Isaiah 5:20 

20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 

These "initiates of the high degrees", who Albert Pike speaks, of are serving Satan, the fallen angel who rebelled against God, who wanted worship for himself. God clearly tells us in His word that only God is to be worshiped and that only He is God. 

Isaiah 45:5

5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

Jesus Christ said...

Matthew 4:10  

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

HOW TO GET SAVED and KNOW GOD:

1. If you believe and confess aloud, genuinely from your heart, that Jesus Christ has paid for all your sinswith His precious blood and has risen from the dead (…knowing that you cannot earn this free gift of salvation) (Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; and Colossians 1:14);

2. And if you repent from your sins (You do this by confessing only to God Himself that you are a sinner and that you want to turn away from sin.) (Romans 3:23; Acts 3:19; and 1 John 1:8-9);

3. And if you have made Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior, you are saved (Jesus cannot be your Lord if you are serving yourself and living selfishly. If He is not your Lord, you would have another master. Jesus said in Luke 16:13: “No servant can serve two masters…”) (Romans 10:9-10 and Luke 16:13).

4. Now seek God with all your heart. Seek to know Him and you will (Jeremiah 29:13).

John 17:3 says: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

Jeremiah 29:13 says, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

1. The Sacrifice of the Mass (Eucharist)

The Catholic Church teaches that every Catholic must partake of the Eucharist (round wafers and wine or grape juice), during the Mass, in order to be saved.

"The Eucharist is necessary for salvation, to be received either sacramentally or in desire." (The Question and Answer Catholic Catechism, Q. 1217.) (Bold added)

Catholics believe that the round wafers and wine of the Eucharist transform into Christ’s actual physical body and blood: literal flesh and blood.

"After the consecration, nothing remains of the bread and wine except their external properties. Their substance becomes the living body and blood of Christ." (The Question and Answer Catholic Catechism, Q. 1225.) (Bold added)

"The Eucharist is a sacrament which really, truly, and substantially contains the body and blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. It is the great sacrament..." (The Question and Answer Catholic Catechism, p. 244, Q. 1212.) (Bold added)

But, what does the Bible teach about this subject? Romans 6 addresses this topic.

Romans 6:6-11 (Emphasis added)

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus Christ “died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.” Jesus does not die all over again each time someone takes part of the Eucharist. His sacrifice at the Cross of Calvary was done one time to pay for all the sins of the world. Hebrews 10 explains…

Hebrews 10:3-10

3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Notice verse 10? The Holy Spirit, through the writer of Hebrews says that Christians “are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” This offering of the body of Jesus Christ is again not many times during many Masses, but “once for all”. 

Hebrews 10:14-18

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Jesus Christ was offered up “once for all”. Verse 18 says, “Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.” To teach otherwise contradicts the Bible, God’s Holy Word.
