His story,
The Lord of the Rings, picked up popularity in the late ‘60s and became known
as ‘the Bible of the “Alternative Society”.’ (1). The drug / counter-cultural
revolution loved “Lord of the Rings”. Tolkien has a cult following that
continues to this day.
The question
now is: ‘Why is The Lord of the Rings
series so popular?’ Why would the writings of a British Oxford professor of
English Language and Literature be so popular around the world today? Why would
The Lord of the Rings reach such
popularity that it would be turned into a block-buster movie trilogy, which would
gain over $1.03 billion for all three films (4)? And, why would The Hobbit movie, alone, exceed $1
billion in box office sales world-wide (4)?
