Lord of the Rings Is Occultic and Anti-Christ

Lord of the Rings Is Occultic and Anti-Christ

The Lord of the Rings was the sequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 novel, The Hobbit. This book series took shape in Tolkien’s mind in the late 1930s. One day as Tolkien was grading papers, he found a blank sheet of paper and a sentence came to his mind: “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit” (See "Who was Tolkien?" in Works Cited). He wrote it down and began to ponder what a hobbit was and what kind of hole it lived in. From that day forward, J.R.R. Tolkien began a story that would become very popular all around the world.

His story, The Lord of the Rings, picked up popularity in the late ‘60s and became known as ‘the Bible of the “Alternative Society”.’ The drug / counter-cultural revolution loved “Lord of the Rings”. Tolkien has a cult following that continues to this day.

But, why is The Lord of the Rings series so popular? Why would the writings of a British Oxford professor of the English Language and Literature be so popular around the world today?

The power of Lord of the Rings to captivate the minds, imaginations, and hearts of countless millions of people is not something that can be lightly ignored. Christians need to be aware of the messages and themes in Tolkien’s books (and Lord of the Rings films and video games), especially since the Bible warned us about deceivers and evil people who would conduct amazing signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, God's people.

The darkness in our world is increasing. We must be vigilant, as Christians, to watch and pray ... that is we need to know what God would show us personally and to pray as God leads us by His Holy Spirit. In the dark waters of this world, we need God's Holy Spirit and His Holy Bible to guide us when we consider the popular things in our culture and world.

-- (1.) “The Force” Is a Term Witches Use. ‘Black’ Magic and ‘White Magic’ Are from the Same Evil Power

After leaving witchcraft, the late David J. Meyer became a believer in Jesus Christ.
Years after his conversion, David J. Meyer said this in an online article:

‘When real witches have sabats and esbats and meet as a coven, they greet each other by saying "Blessed be", and when they part, they say "The Force be with you." Both sides of this "Force" are Satan. It is not a good side of the force that overcomes the bad side of the force, but rather it’s the blood of Jesus Christ that destroys both supposed sides of the satanic "Force."’ (Meyer) (Emphasis added) [End quote] (See the Works Cited.)

Likewise, in Star Wars, “the Force” has a “dark side” and a “light side”. Luke Skywalker uses the “good side” of the Force to battle Darth Vader who uses the “dark side” of the Force. In Lord of the Rings, Gandalf, the “good” wizard (so-called), used “white” magic, and Saruman, the “evil” wizard, used “dark magic.” “White” witches today use what they call “white magic,” and wizards in the dark arts use “black magic.”

In Saruman’s tower, both he and Gandalf battle each other using “the Force,” or magic. Gandalf is defeated after being hurtled across a room by the “dark” wizard’s magic. He is levitated and knocked off his feet by Saruman’s magic, or “Force” power.

Magic (also known as “magick”) is sorcery and witchcraft. The Bible has this to say about such practices…

Deuteronomy 18:9-12 (emphasis added)

“[9] When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
[11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

[12] For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” [End quote] [Underlining / Bold font added]

-- (2.) Levitation Is Used in Witchcraft and in Lord of the Rings.

From Merriam-Webster.com, we have this definition for levitation:

"... the act or process of levitating especially : the rising or lifting of a person or thing by means held to be supernatural" [End quote] (Levitation, Merriam-Webster.com)

Tibetan monks were known to levitate while meditating. Levitation is found in eastern mysticism and also in the occult. In Lord of the Rings, Saruman levitated Gandalf while they fought in a tower. Tibetan monks were also known to have caused massive boulders to levitate into the air.
Jesus Christ in Mark 13:21-22 said:

“[21] And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ ; or, lo, he is
there ; believe him not :
[22] For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs
and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” [End quote]

-- (3.) Telekinesis Is Found in Both Lord of the Rings and the Occult.

Merriam-Webster.com says this about telekinesis:

"... the production of motion in objects (as by a spiritualistic medium) without contact or other physical means" [End quote] (Telekinesis, Merriam-Webster)

Like levitation, telekinesis is the movement of an object without physically touching it. Levitation refers to moving an object upward. Telekinesis refers to moving an object in other directions. In Lord of the Rings, wizards moved objects without touching them. Saruman magically hurtled Gandalf through the air, without touching him.

In The Return of the King book, Gandalf the wizard uses telekinesis to magically remove a sword from the hand of another man. Gandalf and Pippin (a hobbit) encountered Denethor (the leader of the fictional country of Gondor). Denethor was holding a sword and opposing the wizard. So, Gandalf magically removed it from his hands at a distance.

“Even as Gandalf and Pippin ran forward, they heard … the voice of Denethor crying: 'Haste, haste! Do as I have bidden! Slay me this renegade! Or must I do so myself?' … there … stood the Lord of the City, … he held a drawn sword.

But Gandalf sprang up the steps, …. He lifted up his hand, and in the very stroke, the sword of Denethor flew up and left his grasp and fell behind him in the shadows of the house; and Denethor stepped backward before Gandalf as one amazed.” [End quote] (Source: "Microsoft Word - J.R. Tolken - The Return of the King.doc." https://bbs.pku.edu.cn.) {Note: The article titled “What powers does Gandalf possess?” on quora.com was used to obtain some information for this research.}

This is sorcery. Witches have been known to move objects by way of telekinesis for many years, and long before Lord of the Rings came out.

Telekinesis is also defined as: “… the act or process of causing an object to move by means of psychic forces, as directed by a spiritualistic medium, and not by means of any physical force" [End quote] (Telekinesis, YourDictionary.com.)

Jesus said this in Matthew 24:24:

“[24] For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show
great signs and wonders ; insomuch that, if it were possible, they
shall deceive the very elect.” [End quote]

-- (4.) Spell-Casting Is Used in Lord of the Rings

The word "spell," referring to an occult practice, is defined by Merriam-Webster.com as:

"... : a spoken word or form of words held to have magic power"  [End quote] (Spell, Merriam-Webster.com)

TheFreeDictionary.com said this about a magic spell: "... a verbal formula believed to have magical force; ... " [End quote] (Magic Spell, TheFreeDictionary.com)

In The Hobbit book, Tolkien had a scene where Bilbo Baggins is speaking with Gandalf.
We read:
“Yes, yes, my dear sir—and I do know your name, Mr. Bilbo Baggins. And you do know my name, .... I am Gandalf, …. ”
“Gandalf, Gandalf! … Not the wandering wizard that gave Old Took a pair of magic diamond studs that fastened themselves and never came undone till ordered? …” ’ [End quote] [Emphasis added] (“The Hobbit.” Lake.k12.fl.us.)

The words Gandalf used to unfasten a pair of diamond studs are called a "spell" in the occult world. In The Hobbit book, the dwarves sang a song that included the mention of spell-casting. A portion of it is:
“The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells” [End quote] (“The Hobbit.” Lake.k12.fl.us.)

Witches (and warlocks) today will cast spells on people to influence them to make decisions favorable to the witch or warlock. There are books being sold today online that promote the use of spells to influence people to enter a romantic relationship, spells to influence employers, spells to make a business more profitable, spells to cure problems, etc. Spell-casting is real and it is part of witchcraft. Grimores (occult textbooks for witches) and other books of spells contain instructions on how to cast spells to gain certain so-called “benefits.” But, such deeds will be judged by the Almighty God.

Galatians chapter 5 says this in verses 19 through 21:

“[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like : of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

-- (5.) Clairvoyance or Divination Is Used by Wizards in Lord of the Rings.

Merriam-Webster.com says this about divination:

"1 : the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers" [End quote]  [Underlining added]  (Divination, Merriam-Webster.com)

In The Fellowship of the Ring, Galadriel, an elf lady, takes some people to view a magic pool. There, Samwise Gamgee (a hobbit) gazes into the magic pool and magically sees events happening far away. Tolkien writes:

“Down a long flight of steps …. At the bottom, ... stood a basin of silver, wide and shallow, and beside it stood a silver ewer.

With water from the stream Galadriel filled the basin to the brim, ... she spoke. `Here is the Mirror of Galadriel,' she said. 'I have brought you here so that you may look in it, if you will.'

.... 'What shall we look for, and what shall we see?' asked Frodo, filled with awe.

`Many things I can command the Mirror to reveal,' she answered, `and to some I can show what they desire to see. But the Mirror will also show things unbidden, … and more profitable than things which we wish to behold. …. For it shows things that were, and things that are, things that yet may be. …. Do you wish to look?'" [End quote] (“The Fellowship of the Ring.” angelfire.com.)

The magic pool or mirror of Galadriel is no different than a mirror for divination, or a scrying mirror (or pool). Scrying mirrors are sold online and in witchcraft shops. The practice of gazing into a magic mirror or pool is used for divination, or gaining hidden knowledge. God forbids divination in Deuteronomy 18 and throughout the Bible. God said through Moses: “There shall not be found among you any one that ... or that useth divination,....” (Deuteronomy 18:10).

But, divination is not only practiced and promoted in The Fellowship of the Ring. A crystal ball is used in The Two Towers. This is both divination and clairvoyance (which are almost identical).

In The Two Towers, Gandalf obtained a crystal ball (called a “Palantir”) from a wizard’s tower (Isengard), after Gandalf had defeated Saruman, an “evil” wizard. One night, Pippin stole the crystal ball to look into it. The hobbit gazes into its black depths until he sees images appearing. He hears a voice speaking to him, in his mind. It is Sauron, an “evil” wizard, who runs the evil country of Mordor.

Tolkien writes:

“Pippin ... gazed at it. .... At first the globe was dark, black as jet, with the moonlight gleaming on its surface. Then there came a faint glow and stir in the heart of it, .... Soon all the inside seemed on fire; the ball was spinning, or the lights within were revolving. ..." [End quote] (“The Two Towers.” archive.org.)

Witches call this practice "scrying." Scrying is also called "crystal-gazing." Merriam-Webster.com defines crystal gazing as:

"... the art or practice of concentrating on a glass or crystal globe with the aim of inducing a psychic state in which divination can be performed" [End quote] (Crystal Gazing, Merriam-Webster.com.)

Again, this is divination and clairvoyance. Merriam-Webster.com defines clairvoyance as:

"1 : the power or faculty of discerning objects not present to the senses
2 : ability to perceive matters beyond the range of ordinary perception : PENETRATION
The fortune-teller practices clairvoyance when she gazes into a crystal ball to see her client's future." [End quote] (Clairvoyance, Merriam-Webster.com)

Deuteronomy 18:10 says this about divination and witchcraft:

"[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch." [End quote] [Underlining added]

-- (6.) Communication with Spirits of the Dead Is an Occult Practice Called Necromancy. It Is Found in Lord of the Rings.

Britannica.com says this about necromancy:

"Necromancy, communication with the dead, usually in order to obtain insight into the future or to accomplish some otherwise impossible task. ... Its practitioners were skilled magicians ..." [End quote] (Necromancy, Britannica.com)

God warned His people about sorcerers; witches; necromancers (those who communicate with spirits that claim to be of the dead); those who consult or speak with familiar spirits; wizards, enchanters, etc.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12

“[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
[11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or necromancer.

[12] For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” [End quote]

In The Return of the King novel, Aragorn spoke with the spirit of a dead king. Aragorn found a route that went through territory held by those Tolkien calls “the Dead.” They are supposedly spirit beings of people who died.

Gimli (a dwarf) recounts what happened when Aragorn spoke to “the Dead.” Tolkien writes:

'But Aragorn halted and cried with a great voice: "Now come! By the Black Stone I call you! "And suddenly the Shadow Host that had hung back at the last came up …. the Dead needed no longer any weapon but fear. ...  [End quote]  {“The Return of the King.” bbs.pku.edu.cn. (pdf)} (underline added)

A little later, Gimli said:

… 'But mighty indeed was Aragorn that day. ... and the Shadow Host withdrew to the shore. There they stood silent, hardly to be seen, save for a red gleam.... And Aragorn spoke in a loud voice to the Dead Men, crying: ' "Hear now the words of the Heir of Isildur! Your oath is fulfilled. Go back and trouble not the valleys ever again! Depart and be at rest! " 'And thereupon the King of the Dead stood out before the host and broke his spear and cast it down. .... [End quote] {“The Return of the King.” bbs.pku.edu.cn. (pdf)}

Let’s look again at the definition of necromancy.

"Necromancy, communication with the dead, usually in order to obtain insight into the future or to accomplish some otherwise impossible task. ... Its practitioners were skilled magicians ..." [End quote] (Necromancy, Britannica.com)

Necromancy is also found in Star Wars and Harry Potter films and books. In Star Wars, Jedi knights speak with the spirits of deceased Jedi. Witches and occult practitioners call up or summon spirits during sĂ©ances and other occult events. When the spirit or voice summoned claims to be a living being, that spirit is called a ‘spirit guide,’ ‘ascended master,’ or a familiar spirit.

Or, when the spirit claims to be the spirit of a dead person, that person is said to be a “ghost” or the spirit of the dead. But, in both cases, speaking with such a spirit is speaking with an evil spirit that pretends to be and appears to be something other than what it truly is -- a demonic spirit.

God forbids speaking with familiar spirits, or “ghosts,” or anything of that nature. God also forbids anything to do with magic / “magick” (anything that involves occult power or occult knowledge … a.k.a. sorcery). Check out the scriptures at the end of the article.

Again, Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says:

“[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
[11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or necromancer.
[12] For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” [End quote]

The answer to sin, temptation, deception, and the power of the occult is look to Jesus Christ, and seek to know Him, and rest in Him, and talk with Him, and read His Word (the Bible), and choose to look to Him for help to forsake the world. This is how one escapes the snares of the devil and the power of the occult and the traps of sin. Knowing Abba Father God, through Jesus Christ, on a deep, personal level is how to escape the power of darkness in all its forms.
