The Lord of the Rings Exposed - Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, Trolls, Fairies, and Wizards (What Are They? Do They Exist or Did They Exist at One Time?)

The Lord of the Rings Exposed - Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, Trolls, Fairies, and Wizards (What Are They? Do They Exist or Did They Exist at One Time?)

In The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (and Narnia), we read about dwarves, trolls, goblins, elves, and other mythical creatures. These creatures have been featured in myths going back thousands or hundreds of years. J.R.R. Tolkien drew from these myths to write his famous Lord of the Rings series and associated books. But, are these creatures only found in fantasy and myths?

What Is a Dwarf?

I did a Google search and found a book by a Wiccan describing, in a matter-of-fact way, how a witch (or Wiccan) could summon various spirit creatures, such as gnomes, dwarves, elves, and others. Listen to what Mr. Skye Alexander writes concerning gnomes and dwarves:

Gnomes, whose name means “earth dwellers,” dwell in the element of earth. …. At times, however, they can seem gruff… Sometimes called trolls or leprechauns, these elementals are practical, no-nonsense,... creatures. They … can be valuable aides when you’re doing prosperity spells. Other earth spirits include the dwarves of European faery tales [sic], the bergbui (Teutonic mountain giants), the kubera (Hindu guardians of the north), and the simargl (Slavic guardians of all plants). If you wish to work with a gnome, go to a wooded area, call to it, and wait patiently until it reveals itself to you or you sense its presence.”’ [A.] [End quote] (underlining added)

If you are familiar with the Bible, you will know that God forbids communicating with familiar spirits in Deuteronomy 18.

Deuteronomy 18:10-11
“[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, [11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.”

It is strange to most people, but Wiccans (“white” witches) actually communicate with spirits they call dwarves, elves, fairies, gnomes, etc.

What Are Fairies and Elves?

In many fantasy novels, bedtime stories, and myths, fairies are often described as small, winged creatures that fly through the woods. Elves are found in popular books such as The Lord of the Rings and Peter Pan, as well as in myths. But, in Wicca (a type of witchcraft), these creatures are believed to be real. And, Wiccans actually call upon them and communicate with them.

A Wiccan website wrote about elves and fairies:

“Fairy and elf energy can still be called upon, bringing into your life endless possibilities, opening the doorway between the fairy, elf and human realm. Fairies are found in the mortal world, at times in people’s homes, near lakes and trees in the forest, mostly fairies reside in the fairy realm. Elves and fairies have supernatural powers, allowing them to move through space and change their shape into any form they choose and while in the fairy realm, elves and fairies are immortal. ...

“Created before humans, elves possess supernatural powers, they are nature spirits, usually found in forest settings and woodlands. Fairies were the ancient creatures of Ireland, they evolved into various types of fairies. Different types of fairies behave in different ways, some benevolent, others malevolent. ... Fairies possess supernatural powers, some use their powers for good others for evil, ..... These nature spirits are all around you, … where elves and fairies are concerned you get what you give tenfold.” [End quote]

Elves and fairies, to the Wiccan (witch), are thought to be spirits that live in another realm. They can seem to be “good” or bad. Yes, it is true that witches actually believe these creatures exist. For, in witchcraft, people summon these creatures for assistance in magic rituals and for other purposes. By including elves, fairies, and dwarves in a novel or movie may bring the viewer into a desire for the occult (esoteric, hidden knowledge). This is when the Bible needs to be looked at to see what God says about such things.

In Lord of the Rings, an elf lady teaches two hobbits about scrying.

In The Lord of the Rings, we have a central character named Legolas, who is an elf. Another important elf character is Elrond, the Lord of Rivendell. Galadriel of Lothlórien, an elf lady, showed Frodo and Sam (hobbits) a magic pool (the magic mirror of Galadriel). By way of this magic mirror, Sam was able to see future events unfold. Frodo saw some future events as well as the “dark” wizard Sauron. Tolkien writes:

“Down a long flight of steps …. At the bottom, ... stood a basin of silver, wide and shallow, and beside it stood a silver ewer.

With water from the stream Galadriel filled the basin to the brim, ... she spoke. `Here is the Mirror of Galadriel,' she said. 'I have brought you here so that you may look in it, if you will.'

.... 'What shall we look for, and what shall we see?' asked Frodo, filled with awe.

`Many things I can command the Mirror to reveal,' she answered, `and to some I can show what they desire to see. But the Mirror will also show things unbidden, … and more profitable than things which we wish to behold. …. For it shows things that were, and things that are, things that yet may be. …. Do you wish to look?'" [B.] [End quote]

The magic pool or mirror of Galadriel is no different that a mirror for divination, or a scrying mirror (or pool). Scrying mirrors are sold online and in witchcraft shops. The practice of gazing into a magic mirror or pool is used for divination, or gaining hidden knowledge.

An occult website speaks of scrying and divination in the same sentence:

Scrying, also known as Crystal Gazing, Crystallomancy, Reading a Crystal Ball, and Visionary Reading is a divination technique used by psychic readers…. … [For scrying,] a gazing globe, crystal, mirror, or reflective or randomly moving surface of some kind is essential to the divinatory process.” [End quote]

Merriam-Webster defines divination as: "the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers" [C.] [End quote]

God forbids divination in Deuteronomy 18 and throughout the Bible. God said through Moses: “There shall not be found among you any one that ... or that useth divination,....” (Deuteronomy 18:10).

God tells us to not learn the ways of the heathen in Jeremiah 10:2 — "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them."

Getting to Know God as Our Best Friend Is the Answer.

We Christians are to come out of the world, and be separate from its ungodly ways (2 Corinthians 6:14-18). 2 Corinthians 6:17-18"[17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, [18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

Getting to know God as our best Friend is the answer to all of life's problems, and is what living is truly all about. Jesus said in John 17:3: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

Psalm 16:11
[11] Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalm 36:7-8
[7] How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
[8] They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

If you are coming here as a non-Christian, I encourage you to read this. God desires to have fellowship with you, as you make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.
